June 13, 2024

The delegation of The Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing Unit (#JordanFIU), headed by the Chief of the Unit, Samya Abu Shareef participated in the 30th Egmont Group Plenary meetings that concluded last week in Paris. This participation was not just a wonderful opportunity, but rather a valuable journey of learning and growth. Highlighting, through meetings and discussions, the pivotal role of financial information units at the forefront of the battle against money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of proliferation.

It has been an honor for us to deal with experts from all over the world, exchange valuable ideas, and discuss innovative methods. We look forward to applying the ideas gained through this participation, stressing our commitment towards more constructive cooperation with counterpart units and partner agencies in combating money laundering, terrorist financing and financing of proliferation. From this standpoint, the head of the unit signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Financial Information Unit in the United Arab Emirates (UAEFIU) on the sidelines of these meetings with the aim of enhancing joint cooperation at the international level in confronting money laundering and terrorist financing crimes.

Here we take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to the French counterpart FIU (Tracfin) for the hospitality and organization of the meetings at the historic #MaisonDeLaMutulite in Paris. We also congratulate the new Chair of the Egmont Group, Mrs. Elbieta Frankov-Jaskevic, as she was chosen as Chair during this meeting. We also extend our congratulations to Mr. Muhammad Shahid Ahmed for being selected as the Vice-Chair. We also extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Sheikha Mai Khalifa, Vice Chair of EGMONT and the Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa region, for her efforts in the Group and her clear role as a representative of the region.
